Cremona Heritage visits with the 92éme regiment d’infanterie, on their 2023 open day at Clermont-Ferrand.
The French army’s 92nd Infantry Regiment are the successors to the Irish Brigades of 1697 and later, until the formation by Napoleon of his celebrated Légion Irlandaise of the Grande Armée. Yves Badina O’Malley of Cremona Heritage travelled to Clermont-Ferrand last month to attend the regiment’s Open Days and which were also a celebration of 142 years of the 92nd based in that city.
Yves, received the warmest of welcomes and our interest in the 92nd was reciprocated fully by their interest in the Cremona Heritage organisation and in the famous victory of the Irish Brigade at Cremona, Italy in 1702. The preservation by the Regiment of its historical links with the Irish Brigades and with Ireland since, is truly impressive. Our thanks to the Officers of the 92nd, especially Tradition Capt Nicholas and Tradition Lieut Charlotte for their welcome and their time, sharing the history of the Regiment and its historical artefacts with us over the two days.
The Walsh regiment was an Irish infantry regiment of the Kingdom of France created in 1697 which became the 92nd line infantry regiment during the Revolution.
Captain Nicolas and Lieutenant Charlotte, both Tradition Officers with the 92nd, were great hosts. We look forward to them visiting us at Cremona in Swords, in the near future.
